........Register your band for FMBC Semi-Finals

The OFFICIAL FMBC 2014 Registration form is available on line. Click HERE to Register your band to participate in FMBC 2014 Semi-Finals!

Remember that performance order is now heavily dependent on the date of your registration! (along with your score at an FMBC Regional Show).

A tip from one of the early registration bands - when you enter your contact phone number on the entry form, use dashes between the area code and the number (xxx-xxx-xxxx). Don't leave the dashes out or you may get an error message when you try to submit the form.

As in the past, there are two levels of Registration, Standard Registration or Premium Registration - you can choose which ever works best for your band. If your band moves on to Finals, you will receive either 20 wristbands (standard) or 30 wristbands (premium) for Finals. All other personnel needing to enter any gate will need to purchase entrance wristbands. The details are below;

STANDARD REGISTRATION
$450 includes;

- 5 Staff/Director Credentials for Semi-Finals and Finals and
- 20 Chaperone/parent/staff/prop movers/bus drivers passes for Semi-Finals only

OR

PREMIUM REGISTRATION
$750 includes;

- 10 Staff/Director Credentials for Semi-Finals and Finals and
- 30 Chaperone/parent/staff/prop movers/bus drivers passes for Semi-Finals only

ATTENTION FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL
& INDEPENDENT DRUM LINES!

There is a special event just for you now in the final planning stages! FMBC is working with our strategic partner, DCI, to host an all-new event for us - the first FMBC-DCI 'Battle at the Beach' Drum Line Competition. The event will be held at the 'Postcard Inn on the Beach,' located due west of the Tropicana Dome on St. Petersburg Beach on November 21st 2014, the evening before FMBC Semi-Finals and Finals. Although the concept is not new, this specific 'Drum Line Battle' program was designed and developed by DCI as a part of their new 'SoundSport/Drum Line Battle' program series. You can view the Rules at the DCI Drum Line Battle Website. Drumlines must have 2 - 30 members, and all equipment must be carried (no grounded percussion). Competing groups perform head-to-head, each in a 12 meter (40 ft) square zone, separated from their competitor by a 2 meter neutral area. Performance time must be between 1-1/2 and 2 minutes. Competitive divisions will be determined based on the groups who enter. Although this is a competitive event, DCI tells us that the adjudication is heavily weighted towards audience entertainment!

JOHN MICHAEL RUSNAK
1955 - 2014

John Rusnak Photo

FMBC mourns the death of a long time friend and supporter. We were notified that John Rusnak, the talented and enthusiastic director of the nationally known Marjory Stoneman Douglas Band passed away in his sleep of unknown causes on August 6th, 2014.

John was a graduate of Duquesne University, and was a prior band director at Mirimar High School and Stanahan High School.

In addition to recognition as a perennial finalist at FMBC and consistant Superior ratings at FBA's MPA events, the outstanding Stoneman Douglas Eagle Regiment Marching Band has marched in the Orlando and Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parades, performed for the Home Opener of the Florida Marlins, been selected Concert Band Grand Champions at the 1995 Peach Bowl Festival, won 1st Place in the Peach Bowl parade, performed in the largest mass band in the history of Bowl games at the Peach Bowl, and performed in the 1998 Fiesta Bowl Parade and National Marching Band Competition, marched at the Governor’s Inaugural Parade, and had the honor to represent Four States in the 1999 Tournament of Roses Parade.

In his posted invitation to incoming freshmen, John stated "Participation in band is so much more than performance preparation; it reinforces the importance of self-discipline as the fundamental of healthy self-esteem, group pride, personal satisfaction, and aesthetic joy.

"Being in the band is teaching members how to master the circumstances of life by putting ambition and skill into action. All you need is a winning attitude and the commitment to try your hardest.

John Rusnak, Director of Bands..."

He will be missed. He already is.
